Green Tea Safety & Interaction Information
Green Tea has long since been a beverage and is considered safe; however, it does contain caffeine, albeit an amount smaller than coffee or black tea, but nonetheless, it can cause insomnia, nervousness, and other symptoms of excess caffeine intake. This tea should not be given to infants or young children.

Though that doesn't say whether that's true of the other varieties (white, black, oolong).

Oh, and when I was a kid and had a sore throat my Mom always made me "Witch's Brew": tea (regular ole black) with honey, lemon and a bit of whiskey. (They jail her for that nowadays! Lol!). It always made me feel better and sleep fine enough! Of course, I didn't have it every day.

sounds like whisky toddy, altho that invariably contains cloves and can be made w hot water (the tea is optional).

I always drank tea as a kid...supposedly it is great for fighting colds and flu. I would stick to plain jane which you can buy decaffeinated(I have never seen decaf green tea).
I'd talk to a doctor...but when you think of all the people cramming their kids full of sugar(juice) I don't see how caffeine would be much worse.

I would not give tea to a toddler.

why?

Because of the caffeine.

right, but why is that bad? Might keep them up, or fear of a caffeine overdose?

Too much caffeine can cause a number of problems. Would you give your 3 year old a cup of coffee?

of course not, but the tea has a lot less caffeine, and is known for health benefits. I am a heavy tea drinker, and have let my daughter have some small tastes, but after asking around it seems tea (as well as coffee and soda of course!) is not recommended for young children.

The nurse I talked to discussed caffeine overdose, but that seemed really extreme. Hard to imagine they could take in enough for a result like that. Either way I can accept the consensus that tea must wait till they are able to brew it themselves ;)

Still I think it moderation it wouldn't hurt more than the whiskey toddy would ;)
